For those of you who make donations of items to First Light, you will soon see a NEW IN-KIND DONATION FORM at the front desk. It is a form that we will be asking you to fill out when you make a donation of any kind. You will take the white copy and leave the yellow for us.
The biggest change is that we will begin asking you to assign a value to the items being donated. This is for your tax purposes and for our record-keeping and reporting purposes. It is common practice for nonprofits to report the value of goods donated, and we need to begin doing so.
We cannot assign a value to the items you donate, so please be patient with us as we ask you to begin assigning a value to the items you contribute. For more information on the deductibility of in-kind donations, you may visit the IRS website and look up publication 526 (www.irs.gov).
