Sassafras Market & Coffee to conduct a Breakfast Pantry Drive for First Light Shelter through the week before Thanksgiving

Birmingham, AL – On Friday, September 17th at 6:30 am, Sassafras Market & Coffee will begin its First Annual Breakfast Pantry Drive to benefit First Light Shelter in Birmingham, Alabama, the only 24-hour shelter for homeless women and children in the area. This drive to fill the shelter's pantry with breakfast items will continue through November 19th. This is an effort to make a significant contribution to pantry levels before the holiday, when domestic situations seem to increase the need for the services provided by First Light Shelter.

To kick off the Breakfast Pantry Drive, on Saturday, September 18th at 8:30 am, Sassafras Market introduces its weekend waffle event during which hungry donors will enjoy a free, delicious hot Belgian waffle while they last when they bring two items for donation to the breakfast pantry drive for First Light Shelter. Sassafras Market will also conduct the waffle event during the first weekends of October and November.

“It is more challenging to maintain a household during the current economic climate and unfortunately, many are losing their livelihoods and finding themselves without employment, food, and shelter. As a new fixture in the community, we wanted to make a contribution through First Light Shelter as they work to accomplish their goal to provide assistance to some of the many women and children in very difficult situations,” said Sandra Plenty of Sassafras Market & Coffee.

Donations of boxed sweet cereal, cereal bars, individual packages of instant grits and oatmeal, plastic containers of peanut butter and jelly, and large containers of decaf coffee can be taken to Sassafras Market & Coffee at 100 Frankfurt Circle, Suite D, off Lakeshore Drive in Birmingham, Alabama, just west of America’s First Credit Union. For more information regarding the Sassafras Market & Coffee Breakfast Pantry Drive to benefit First Light Shelter, or to volunteer, call 205-290-7400.
